I don't think consoles are dying. Personally, I prefer playing on consoles, because I don't have to worry about the size of the game and whether it's gonna run properly with its graphics. There are games, of course, which is better to play on PC with a mouse though, like Portal. But even a PC version Zelda wouldn't be free.
I'm not really interested in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I have the Wii U version and I've got Link in it, so that's enough for me There isn't a Smash for the Switch yet, but I guess they'll do one in the future. And if they do, I'll definitely get that But none of these matter at the moment, because once I get the Switch and BotW, I'm gonna play that only. I wanna explore every single corner of Hyrule and that's gonna take time in such a huge world
Well if the new Zelda game were to be played on Wii U, the fps would probably shoot itself in the face and go to ~2 because the size of the world is so large (and I'm pretty sure it's all on one map too, but correct me if I'm wrong). Wii U is running on outdated hardware + region lock, lol
Besides, the Switch is portable and also has removable features. Who wouldn't want those... better graphics and cool stuffs *-*
EDIT: Lawl jokes on me, the game actually runs really well according to a comparison I watched. I'd still go for the Switch version though, since it has better hardware and because I don't have a Wii U
I have a Wii U, but the game is so massive, it'll definitely run better on the Switch. I don't think it would lag that much, it'd probably be optimised for the Wii U, but the graphics and the world itself would be simplyfied and that's de a shame... So I must get a Switch
